Bulldogs Claim Blow-Out Victory Over Rushville, 8-2The Bulldogs asserted their will over Rushville on their way to an easy 8-2 victoryIn the first inning, Batesville got their offense started when Sam Voegele drew a walk, scoring one run.Batesville tallied three runs in the fourth inning. Calvin Sherwood had an RBI fielder’s choice in the inning to lead the run scoring.Lane Oesterling (6-0) got the win for the Bulldogs. He allowed three hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out 11 and walking one. Casey Werner threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.Aaron Duncan took the loss for Rushville. He surrendered seven runs on five hits over five innings, striking out four.Sherwood went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Bulldogs in hits. Batesville was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error.. Caleb Raab had the most chances in the field with ten.After the win, the Bulldogs record is now even at 10-10 and 6-4 in the EIAC.Bats Blistered As Batesville Defeats Hauser, 17-6There were runs aplenty on Tuesday, as Batesville defeated Hauser 17-6.The Bulldogs got things started in the first inning when Batesville scored one run on a stolen base.Batesville tallied five runs in the fourth inning. The Bulldogs big bats were led by Calvin Sherwood, Quinn Werner, and Seth Gausman, all driving in runs in the inning.Shane Meer got the win for the Bulldogs. He allowed one hit and three runs over three and a third innings, striking out two. Riley Zink and Trey Peters entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.Aaron Mee took the loss for Hauser. He surrendered six runs on four hits over two innings, striking out two and walking one.Batesville smacked one home run on the day. Werner had a dinger in the fourth inning. Werner’s third home run on the year.The Bulldogs scattered 12 hits in the game. Trey Heidlage and Sherwood all had multiple hits for Batesville. Heidlage went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Batesville in hits. The Bulldogs were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Sherwood had the most chances in the field with nine.With the win, the Bulldogs have now won five in a row and are 11-10 and 6-4 in the EIAC. ACCESS/LAGOS MARATHON The organisers of the February 11, 2017 Access Bank/Lagos City Marathon have called on Lagosians and lovers of the state worldwide to join hands with the state government and organizer in making the 2017 edition a memorable and world class event by working as volunteers.Head of Volunteering, Ebidowei Oweifie, said volunteers were an integral part of any marathon. He said: “Their role cannot be over-emphasized. Volunteering cuts across all board, medical, paramedical, protocol, technical, support for elite athletes, fun runners, charity runner and special athletes.”Oweifie urged interested applicants to call at the Marathon Office Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos to pick up the free application forms from January 16, 2017 as application will close by January 23, 2017.Olukayode Thomas, Head of Communication and Media, urged practising and retired journalists with experience in coverage of international sporting events to apply to work as volunteers and implement innovations which are being introduced in the 2017 edition that will make the work of the media, a major stakeholder in the marathon, easy.For the 2017 edition, there will be a world-class media work station at the finish which will open hours before the race, there will also be a mixed zone and press conference room.At the start and the finish, there will be a special area just for photo journalists and television cameramen so that they can work without hindrances.‘’We need experienced journalists to assist us so that those covering the marathon will get all the support they need to work without stress,” Thomas said.
